”My voice. My right. My voice counts.”

HRD2012On the International Day of Human Rights, 10 December 2012, the Office of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights focuses on inclusion and the right to participate in public life.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay states it has been everyone’s right to be heard in their society since the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. Indeed, the article 21 of the Declaration says ”Everyone has the right to take part in the government of his country, directly or through freely chosen representatives”. This way, people fighting for their rights to be heard and to participate in the decision making in a society of today aren’t actually asking for anything more than what they should have had for more than 60 years already.

See the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and know your rights!
