Benefitting from the opportunity offered by the location of the UNYNAET Summit 2013, the representatives of the Finnish UN youth visited the Finnish embassy in Ljubljana. Ambassador Pekka Metso was kind enough to grant a visit to the youth representatives on Thursday 22 August 2013.
Ambassador Metso’s 26-year long career at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs has covered 9 years of work with UN affairs both in Geneva and New York, and during the visit, UN issues were discussed even though they aren’t the main part of the Ambassador’s work anymore. The role of the EU in the Finnish-Slovenian cooperation was touched upon, and the Ambassador ellaborated on the confluences of the two countries regarding their policies towards the UN. The Ambassador noted that the UN agenda has transformed remarkably along his career and welcomed these changes.
Ambassador Metso saw Finland as an important Nordic representative in Slovenia since other Nordic countries except Denmark don’t have an embassy there.
The youth representatives presented aims and activities of the UN Youth of Finland and UNYANET emphasizing the independent take of these youth organizations and that of the youth as an actor in different contexts.
