Together with this year’s March spring breeze came also a new team to the UNA Slovenia Youth Section. A new Board, which will lead young volunteers in the coming year, was elected at the fourth Member’s Assembly of the Youth Section on the 25th February.
A longtime activist Adriana Aralica, who is responsible for the establishment of the Youth Section, its excellent operation and commitment of its volunteers in the past four years, stepped down as the President of the Youth Section.
New Board of the UNA Slovenia Youth Section was elected, consisting of Kaja Primorac as a president of the Youth Section, Sabina Carli as a Vice President, Arbnore Avdylaj, Ajda Gracia Golob, Maruša Rus, Vid Tomić and Urška Učakar.
At the Member’s Assembly of the Youth Section Adriana Aralica also presented activities of UNA Slovenia Youth Section in 2014.
The members of the Youth Section actively participated in activities, they regularly updated the website of the UNA Slovenia where there has also been added a tab ‘Youth’, which puts special emphasis on the activities for young people. The members organized a presentation of UNA Slovenia at Faculties of Ljubljana University, at the Lupa Festival, at the Festival of Volunteering and conducted workshops in primary and high schools. Youth Section also organized, in cooperation with the Slovenian National Commission for UNESCO, workshops on intercultural dialogue and a competition on Human Rights Day on the topic of intercultural dialogue. UNA Slovenia Youth Section is also a founding member of the UNYANET and members of Youth Section regularly participated in UNYANET meetings. Ana Podgornik also took over the function of auditor in the network. Moreover, the Youth Section also prepared a description of all association activities and projects for WFUNA Youth Directory and participated in a WFUNA campaign on the International Youth Day.
Model United Nations Slovenia Club also continued with their work in 2014. In the fall of 2014 the leadership has been taken over by Nikolina Černić, Meliha Muherina, Vid Tomić, Karolina Praček in Adriana Aralica. On collaboration with the Academic Forum for Foreign Affairs Graz the MUNSC organized a simulation of the functioning of the UN entitled Youth Conference on Energy Security, which took place from 8th to 11th July 2014 at the Faculty of Social Science in Ljubljana. More than 40 participants joined the four-day simulation from Slovenia and Austria, as well as from other countries (Croatia, India, Kosovo, Italy, Macedonia, Poland and Serbia).
Between the 10th and 12th September UNA Slovenia Youth Section organized a ‘Summer school of the United Nations: competence of young people for the challenges of a globalized world’. 30 young people from Slovenia and abroad attended this three-day conference.
UNA Slovenia Youth Section also established cooperation with the National Youth Council of Slovenia. The Youth Section marked an International Youth Day with a publication of ‘Youth and the United Nations’, which includes an overview of the activities of the UN in the field of youth and opportunities to engage in activities from the UN agenda (Youth delegate to UN and UNESCO messenger), as well as the results of a research in which the Association examined the views of young people about the UN. The Youth Section also participated in the selection of a youth delegate to the UN and promoted its activities.
