From 14-16 August, UNYA Germany met for its annual Summer School and 27th General Assembly. This year, it took place in Gießen. The programme for 25 attendees was diverse, alternating seminars, workshops and exchanges. Results include the election of Moritz Limbacher, who now teams with Jonas Meereis as heads of UNYA Germany.
Moritz and Julia presented the project “UN at School”, where teamers conduct a session with high-school students about the UN, featuring also a mini-version of Model United Nations. Materials including the toolkit and handbook are available only in German, but shall be translated and made available in other languages, too.
The programme further consisted of a MUN Forum, where MUN organizers exchanged best practices regarding fundraising, media, participant coordination and choice of committees and topics.
UNYA Germany also presented results of the offline and online consultations in Germany for the upcoming World Humanitarian Summit (WHS), and former youth delegate Elise Zerrath shared insights from her time with UN Women.
A highlight was the speech and Q&A with Simon Brombeiss, former head of UNYA Germany and now working for the German Foreign Service, who joined live from Kairo. He answered questions regarding the situation in Egypt, and shared his experiences and advice on a career as diplomat.
UNYA Germany also accepted three new local chapters and elected some new board members. The next event will be a meeting with German President Gauck on 31 August, to celebrate 70 years United Nations and 10 years German Youth Delegate programme.
