Finnish Model United Nations conference 2017: The Arctic
Welcome to the FinMUN2017 conference, organized in Helsinki in April 5-8. FinMUN is the only university level model UN organized in Finland. Our specialty is that we are quite a small conference, which makes it easy for the delegates to get to know everyone. Due to this, it is also a good conference for people trying out MUNs for the first time. And of course, we offer our participants first-hand experience of sauna diplomacy at our traditional sauna evening!
This year our theme for the conference is the Arctic. We chose the Arctic as a theme because Finland will be chairing the Arctic council from May 2017 onwards. We also believe the Arctic to be an important region, with a unique environment and geographical location. The region is affected both by climate change and territorial claims. Therefore we want to invite our participants to discuss the Arctic both from security-related matters, as well as from an environmental perspective. Continue reading

A year after the meeting in Lisbon of the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth in 1998, the General Assembly of the United Nations declared August, 12th, the International Youth Day. Since then this date is special and it’s a source of inspiration for all the youth of the world.
We can shape the world! We need to make sure that the voice of youth is heard by decision-makers and within the international organizations. We would like ensure that the youth has a voice in the issues of human rights, sustainable development, education, health,… you name it! There are so many topics that concern our generation… Today in the world there are a total of 1.1 billion of youth. We will have to find solutions to the mistakes made by the current generation of world leaders. We feel we have a great responsibility to speak up and we cannot compromise the future of next generations, especially regarding peace and sustainable development. That’s why our voices need to be heard in the decision making process more than ever. Therefore, united we are stronger.
This year 2014, during the International Youth Day, we are united to speak up especially to raise awareness about the topic of this year which is “Youth and Mental Health”. We encourage all youth to speak up against discrimination which could lead to any sort of exclusion. We encourage YOU to write an article about a situation that highlights the experiences of brave, youngsters that have chosen to speak up “about these issues with the objective of overcoming stigma and discrimination to ensure that young people with mental health conditions can lead full and healthy lives free from isolation and unnecessary shame, and openly seek the services and support they need”. Remember that every positive change in the world starts with YOU!
Thank you for your attention and we wish you all to celebrate with us the International Youth Day.

“This has been the best academic experience of my life” is one of the sentences worth remembering after C’MUN 2014, which confirms the need of continuing organizing a simulation of the United Nations in Barcelona. In fact, it’s more than a simulation; it’s an engine of change for the youth coming from all continents of the world. We have used the great potential and unique opportunity of engaging C’MUN 2014 to shape the next global decisions as the outcomes are sent to the United Nations councils and committees as well as the European Council. The conference took place from 29th April till 2nd May 2014 in Barcelona and has been an inspiring experience for all the participants.
Despite the fact that the organization and delegates had to face complex and challenging situations, especially but not limited to the economic crisis, before and during the conference, the Model UN of Barcelona has been a success. Throughout the conference we have witnessed how C’MUN serves as an engine of change with what former Secretary-General, Raül Jiménez, referred as the “C’MUN values”: the value of dialogue, of seeking consensus, of plurality, of debating, of empathy, of community and the aim of universality. From here we would like to thank him and acknowledge all his support throughout the years that he has dedicated to empower young people to make a positive difference in the world. C’MUN continues to serve as an engine of change after all these years. Continue reading
