FinMUN 2017 has ended, delegates have returned home and the organizers have finished all their conference-related tasks. It’s been a while since the conference came to an end, so now is the time to look back and sum up the conference.
I sat in both the Environmental Assembly and in the Security Council, spending most of my time in the latter. Being the primary point of contact between the delegates and the organizing team in the days before the conference, I had gotten to know some of the delegates beforehand and I had an idea of the skills, experience and enthusiasm levels of all the delegates selected for the conference. Having said that, the level of research, commitment and professionalism shown by the delegates in both committees came as a surprise, a very pleasant one at that, starting on day one of the committees. Finnish Model United Nations conference 2017: The Arctic
Welcome to the FinMUN2017 conference, organized in Helsinki in April 5-8. FinMUN is the only university level model UN organized in Finland. Our specialty is that we are quite a small conference, which makes it easy for the delegates to get to know everyone. Due to this, it is also a good conference for people trying out MUNs for the first time. And of course, we offer our participants first-hand experience of sauna diplomacy at our traditional sauna evening!
This year our theme for the conference is the Arctic. We chose the Arctic as a theme because Finland will be chairing the Arctic council from May 2017 onwards. We also believe the Arctic to be an important region, with a unique environment and geographical location. The region is affected both by climate change and territorial claims. Therefore we want to invite our participants to discuss the Arctic both from security-related matters, as well as from an environmental perspective. Continue reading →

This is the proof: Young people are interested in politics and global affairs. At least within the United Nations Youth Associations Network (UNYANET), which has just formed its new team. With 11 board members and several volunteers, this is the largest team UNYANET ever had. From 10-12 September 2015, the UNYANET General Assembly 2015 took place in Bucharest, Romania. Delegates from nine countries were welcomed by UN Youth Romania, who generously hosted the event and delved into Romanian culture with the participants. The programme alternated between workshops, project development, formal parts, and social events. Here is an overview of the outcomes:Continue reading →
