Restoring Peace for over 50 years – A Visit to the longest-running Peacekeeping Mission of the UN
We are happy to announce the International Study Trip 2015 to the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus! We invite you to join us and learn more about UN peacekeeping and the Cyprus conflict. Come along to discover
the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP)
from 28 August – 5 September 2015
The project is organized jointly by UNYANET and JUNES. There will be a Swiss delegation, consisting of Swiss students and MUN club members, and an UNYANET delegation, consisting of students from all around the world.
The Study Trip offers students the opportunity to visit the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP). The project aims at providing students with an insight into the political background of this mission and into the complexity of the current situation in Cyprus. In addition, students will be able to gain a thorough understanding of past and existing challenges with the help of workshops and discussions that will be held with experts in the fields of diplomacy, peacekeeping and conflicts.
The International Study Project consists of three workshops, which are held in Switzerland, and one excursion taking place in Cyprus. The workshops are optional for UNYANET participants, online participation is a possibility. During the trip to Cyprus, the participants will have several chances to obtain a deeper understanding of the different dynamics of the conflict by entering into contact with relevant actors of the conflict.
We are looking forward to receiving your application. Registration is open until March 20th 2015. Please send your CV and a motivation letter indicating your particular interest in our project to firstname.lastname@example.org
Participation is free of charge for UNYANET members. UNYANET is raising funds to contribute to travel expenses and accomodation costs. However, participants need to be prepared to bare part of their expenses themselves.
2) Number of participants
We ask for your understanding that for organizational reasons, places are limited.
Flights must be booked and paid for by the participants themselves. UNYANET is not taking care of any travel arrangements for getting to Cyprus and back home. The most convenient option is to fly to Larnaka International Airport, but you might find worth checking out flying to Paphos. It is also possible to get to Cyprus by ferry. A recommended flight option for those people attending the GA in Romania right after the Study Trip will be sent out after successful registration.
UNYANET/JUNES is making group reservations for all participants. We guarantee the best and cheapest offer available. After your registration, you will be asked to make a downpayment for the accomodation. The rest needs to be paid upon arrival. The total cost will be about 15 Euro per person and night.
Please consider the costs of meals in your planning. UNYANET/JUNES is making reservations at restaurants and organizing picknicks.
Most EU citizens do not require a visa to enter Cyprus for a stay up to 90 days. However, please check what rules apply for your nationality. It is every participant’s responsibility to take care of valid entry documents.
Cyprus is a relatively secure place. For more information, please visit the websites of your foreign ministries for travel advice.
Please note that UNYANET is not a commercial tour operator. Each participant participates at his/her own risk and accepts that UNYANET does not take any liability. A legal right to participate in the study trip does not exist.
