UN Association of Finland together with its partners proposes a resolution on Youth, Peace and Security to be adopted by the UN Security Council. The aim of the initiative and the possible resolution would be to increase the involvement of the youth in all decision-making and social change worldwide. The key note speaker, Dr. Marijan Ivanuša
United Nations Association of Slovenia celebrated the Human Rights Day on the 11th* December 2012 in the chamber hall of the University of Ljubljana. The main speaker was Dr. Marijan Ivanuša, Representative of the World Health Organization in Slovenia. During the ceremony, UNA Slovenia awarded the authors of art, literary and photographic works in the competition entitled “Taking care of healthy future”.
On the International Day of Human Rights, 10 December 2012, the Office of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights focuses on inclusion and the right to participate in public life.
The UN Youth and Students’ Days, organized by UNA Finland and UNYA Finland, took place in Helsinki, Finland, on 9-10 November 2012. On the second day, the participants worked on different topics in small groups, and the ”Youth, Peace and Security” working group was lead by UNYA Finland. The questions discussed in this group included the role of youth as peace creators, and the problematique behind the dichotomy of youth as a target group vs. youth as actors.
Today is World AIDS Day. “World AIDS Day is held on 1 December each year and is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died. World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day and the first one was held in 1988.” According to the official report by UNAIDS 2012, relased on 20 November, a “50% drop in new HIV infections across 25 countries” has been achieved. ““The pace of progress is quickening—what used to take a decade is now being achieved in 24 months,” said Michel Sidibé, Executive Director of UNAIDS. “We are scaling up faster and smarter than ever before. It is the proof that with political will and follow through we can reach our shared goals by 2015.”
It is important to know how HIV is transmitted, how it can be prevented and how the reality is today of living with HIV. By using this knowledge, you can take care of your own health as well as those of others and ensure that those living with HIV are treated fairly, with respect and understanding. “School – the Key to Development: pupils of Angola, Malawi and Ghana”
Youth Section of United Nations Association of Slovenia prepared an exhibition in collaboration with the Slovenian School Museum. The exhibition, entitled “School – the Key to Development: pupils of Angola, Malawi and Ghana” can be seen until December at the UNA Slovenia premises in Ljubljana.
UNA Turkey Youth Section Welcome Day 2012
United Nations Association (UNA) of Turkey Youth Section wished welcome to almost 30 new members by the traditional Welcoming Day held on November 3, 2012. The representatives of the organization provided information about the association and the activities of the Youth Section.
On December the 14th 2012 UNYA Switzerland organizes the fourth edition of ISYFUN (Intra-Swiss Youth Forum United Nations) in Geneva. Through a one-day program participants get to explore two of the main actors on the international humanitarian aid scene.
The program includes a visit to the headquarters of the International Red Cross and the World Health Organization and a presentation on the organizations’ activities and commitments at the headquarter in Geneva. During ISYFUN the participants will receive an inside point of view on these global-impact organizations as well as a chance to learn about humanitarian work in general. If you think about entering the field of humanitarian aid or just want to know more about the topic, ISYFUN 2012 is the perfect opportunity!

The UN Youth Association of Romania is proud to present “UN Youth Moot Courts 2012 – Justice on international level!”, a project of which the main focus is the simulation of juridical procedure in front of four main courts: International Court of Justice, The European Court of Human Rights, The Court of Justice of the European Union and The International Criminal Court. This event, which will take place on December 7-9 2012 at the Bucharest Court of Appeal, represents one of the most important activities enrolled by the association and has the objective of giving the participants the chance of putting in practice their knowledge of international law, EU law and human rights law.
