From nuclear energy to political crises and environmental sustainability, from Accra to Yaoundé and from strategic planning to awareness raising events, the United Nations Information Service in Vienna (UNIS) is part of a global network of United Nations Information Centres. It informs the public about the UN’s work, engaging local authorities, civil society organizations, universities, students and UN visitors in its activities. It also acts as secretariat to the United Nations Communications Group (UNCG) in Vienna and promotes the UN goals by reaching out to the media, government entities, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), academia and the private sector.
The first regional Model United Nations Workshop in Vienna has come to an end. It was organized by the United Nations Department of Public Information (UNDPI), the United Nations Information Service Vienna (UNIS Vienna) and the United Nations Youth Associations Network (UNYANET).
We are glad that we can announce that registration for the Model UN (MUN) Workshop in Vienna, July 8-11, 2013, has finally started!
The workshop targets at MUN-Societys, MUN-Organizers, faculties and anyone else, holding a MUN Conference within the upcoming year. It will provide expertise by senior UN-Staff, about the respective councils, committees and UN-Bodies, such as the Security Council, the Human Rights Council and as well Vienna based Organizations such as the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Two Model UN (MUN) Workshops are being organized by the United Nations Department of Public Information (UNDPI) this summer. The first will be held from 8–11 July 2013 in partnership with the United Nations Information Service (UNIS) in Vienna and the United Nations Youth and Student Association of Austria (UNYSA-Austria). Allthough there is no outcome document available at this time, we want to share with you the statement made by UNYANET Presidency Member Michael Klampfl, on behalf of UNYANET and UNYSA-Austria.
As we approach 2013, we wanted to share with you a new App launched by UNDPI earlier this month which we hope you will find useful. This electronic version of the print “United Nations Making a Difference 2013” educational calendar is a handy tool that not only uses international days to showcase what the UN does through photos, videos and web links, but also features what the UN does in peace and security, economic development, social development, human rights, environment, international law, humanitarian affairs, health etc.
Michael Klampfl will be representing UNYANET at the upcoming UNDPI MUN Workshop 2012 in New York. We established a “live” coverage of the event in order to share his experiences with as many people as possible. Michael will regularly post news and pictures on our just establisedh tumblr-page. We are always looking for members who want to share their impressions of ongoing events like Model United Nations, workshops, seminars, penal discussions etc. If you are attending such an event, let us know be sending us an mail.
A few days ago, UNYANET created a tumblr blog. We will use it to share the experience and impression of our members if the various events, seminar, workshop, MUNs etc. they are attending. UNDPI are organising a MUN workshop in New York City, August 27 to 29 2012. The aim is to provide students who are organising MUNs at university level with a better understanding of the working procedures of the UN. The focus of the workshop is the work of the General Assembly and how it operates:
“The workshop will focus on giving MUN organizers a basic understanding of the General Assembly’s Rules and Procedures, the discussion and action phases of General Assembly Committee meetings, what you need to know when drafting resolutions, the duties and responsibilities of the UN Secretariat and General Assembly officials, and more.”
