Researchers’ Night at the Marine Biology Station Piran

2013 International Year of Water Cooperation

With the aim of raising awareness about the importance of water resources management and about the UN International Year of Water Cooperation, UN Association of Slovenia prepared a series of projects in cooperation with the Slovenian National Commission for UNESCO. The projects included a round table on World Water Day, contest in graphical design of a mobile information point, issuing a publication and preparing an e-workshop about the UN International Year of Water Cooperation.

The new mobile information point about water was presented during the Researchers’ Night at the Marine Biology Station Piran. The information point serves to raise public awareness about the importance of water as a human right. The information point was graphically designed by Nika Domnik from Piran, a student of the Faculty of Design. Her graphic design proposal of the information point called “The Molecules” was awarded at the contest, organized by UN Association of Slovenia.

During the Researchers’ Night at the Marine Biology Station in Piran, also our new publication titled “More Space for Water – Publication about the International Year of Water Cooperation” was presented. The publication presents the activities of UNESCO in the field of water management, goals of the UN International Year of Water Cooperation, and measures for ensuring access to safe drinking water in the 21. century. Author of the foreword is distinguished Slovenian climatologist Professor Dr. Lučka Kajfež Bogataj, Head of the Department of Agricultural Meteorology at the Biotechnical Faculty of University of Ljubljana and a member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
