The Youth Section of United Nations Association of Slovenia (UNAS) was established in 2011 and hosted the UNYANET General Assembly in 2012. Its purpose is to raise awareness about the United Nations and its work among younger generations conducting numerous activities throughout the year 2017.
Jazz Night for intercultural dialogue and international youth cooperation
The importance of jazz has been recognized and celebrated by UNAS since 2011. It is perceived as more than music alone – it was acknowledged as a way of bringing communities together, as a manner of communication that goes beyond conflict, and as a mean of intercultural dialogue, mutual understanding and international cooperation. Members of Youth Section organized an event called Jazz Night that took place on 5 May in Ljubljana in which jazz was presented by some of the greatest Slovenian musicians in a form of a concert.

Once more Belgrade was a center for young people who are seeking the opportunity to learn more about the UN system and the world of diplomacy. As every year in March, United Nations Association of Serbia organizes this Model UN conference for ambitious university and high school students. It is our goal to connect young people of the world so that they can exchange their knowledge and good practices through using UN tools and procedures for that. From 14-16 August, UNYA Germany met for its annual Summer School and 27th General Assembly. This year, it took place in Gießen. The programme for 25 attendees was diverse, alternating seminars, workshops and exchanges. Results include the election of Moritz Limbacher, who now teams with Jonas Meereis as heads of UNYA Germany.

Abrar Charity Association in cooperation with UNYANET organized a seminar on 13 August in Gaza, Palestine to celebrate International Youth Day, with the primary objective to empower youth civic participation. Two main issues were discussed:

Empower youth initiatives and activate volunteer work
Ms. Ann-Christine Niepelt, former Youth Advisor of UNA Germany and former Head of UNYA Germany, was the international guest on the occasion. Via skype she represented the first topic with focus on establishment of United Nations Youth Association (UNYA) and how to send a youth delegate to the United Nations. Also she highlighted the importance of youth in making the change.
Mr. Mahmoud Alghefari, training and development specialist, gave a detailed presentation from his experience on empower youth initiatives and activate volunteer work. Discussing the way to form a youth initiative which is practically applied at the seminar.
Thirty participants, students and graduates, attended the seminar to get an idea about youth initiatives and how they help to improve the community.
On Tuesday, May 27th, 2014 the roundtable on Women in Peacekeeping operations took place atthe United Nations Association ofSlovenia. The United Nations Association of Slovenia prepared a workshop on intercultural dialogue and is carrying it out in Slovenian primary and secondary schools in cooperation with Slovenian National Commission for UNESCO.
In December 2012, the United Nations General Assembly declared the period 2013 – 2022 as the International Decade for the Rapprochement of Cultures. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) was entitled with the coordination of the activities which will seek to promote social inclusion and intercultural dialogue with the aim of improving global understanding in the world. The Board of the United Nations Youth Associations Network has met in the German capital from 31st May till 1st June 2014. The purpose of the meeting has been to prepare the General Assembly as well as to evaluate the different Working Groups and of course to explore the great atmosphere of Berlin. Continue reading →

President Pahor: “Youth are the most powerful driving force of social and economic development in the world”
UNYANET Summit 2013 in Ljubljana was held under honorary patronage of the President of the Republic of Slovenia Mr. Borut Pahor, and during the Summit, the participants had the honor of meeting the Slovenian President (20 August 2013). In the debate, the President openly expressed his views on current international issues, consequences of the global crisis, future of the European Union and on the role of the United Nations in the world.
